Walk With Little Amal: Cincinnati

Learning Through Art, Inc. in partnership with the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, will be welcoming Little Amal, the 12 foot puppet representing a young, ten year old girl, and Syrian refugee, who has traveled the world inspiring hope and love as she seeks refuge and family, to the Queen City. LTA featured a Story Quilts: Community Conversation Quilt that was created during the Night Market on July 29th from 4-7p, at the beautiful and symbolic Findlay Market.

“The opportunity to invite neighbors to share their stories surrounding the topics of displacement, migration, compassion, and hope, through the activity of creating story quilt squares following an LTA-led, community discussion, much like our Story Quilts project, at Findlay Market, is complete synergy.” (Kathy Wade, CEO and Co-Founder of LTA)

Guests of Findlay's Night Market were invited to participate in our collaboration through the creation of their own quilt square. The process of making art created opportunities for participants to describe their own experiences or stories, to be unified into a singular quilt relating to the topics of displacement, home, and hope. Following her historic walk across the Roebling Suspension Bridge on September 22, 2023, Little Amal will be gifted this extraordinary quilt for her rest at the Freedom Center. She will find comfort and strength through the power of our stories and our collective bravery to share them.

The quilt will then be donated to our friends at Findlay Market for permanent display in gratitude for their support and to encourage future conversations and discussions for all who travel and pass through the joyous global community of Findlay Market.

This is an extraordinary opportunity to share in the culture, music, food, and storytelling of our beautiful community!

Who is Little Amal?

Little Amal is a 12-foot puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee girl who has traveled across 13 countries meeting more than a million people, and watched by tens of millions more online. This fall, she will journey 6,000 miles across the United States in one of the largest free public festivals ever created. 35 towns and cities from Boston to San Diego and 1,000+ artists and arts organizations will create 100+ events to welcome her. Amal’s journeys of art and hope celebrate the rich stories of refugees, immigrants, and displaced people, and the communities that welcome them. Everyone is welcome to walk with Amal.
