Washington Park & School for Creative & Performing Arts in Over-the-Rhine

CINCINNATI, OH – Learning Through Art, Inc. presents the return of its popular Crown Jewels of Jazz® Festival on August 22-23, 2014!  Join Jazz lovers from around the region for this special two-day celebration of Jazz music, with concerts and events at both Washington Park and the nationally-renowned School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) in Over-the-Rhine.

The 2014 installment of the Crown Jewels® Festival kicks-off on Friday night with GRAMMY award-winning headliner Gregory Porter, and Cincinnati’s own Mandy Gaines fresh from her recent tour of Europe and Asia.  Guests are encouraged to arrive early to stake out prime seating for this free concert at Washington Park’s Haile Main Stage on Friday, August 22 at 8:00 p.m.

Then on Saturday, August 23, Jazz lovers of all ages are in for a special treat with an entire day of festivities!  From 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., the debut of the Crown Jewels of Jazz® CJ2 Jazz Camp will take place at SCPA, where high school campers will work with world class Jazz faculty, culminating in an on-stage performance during the Crown Jewels of Jazz® Festival.  Generously sponsored by Procter and Gamble, the Crown Jewels of Jazz® CJ2 Jazz Camp registration fees are just $35, and open to 9-12th grade high school.

From 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., the Crown Jewels of Jazz® Festival presents Journeys: A Black Anthology of Music, traces the history of Jazz and emphasizes the importance of finishing what you start.  Catch the live performance with Kathy Wade, Phil DeGreg and Baba Charles Miller presented in partnership with the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center 10th Anniversary.

An exciting new element joins the Crown Jewels of Jazz® Festival with Piano Picnic in the Park™ from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.  Enjoy eight of the Cincinnati region’s hottest pianists as they serenade you with their favorite Jazz selections. Make the most of the music and the outdoor setting by bringing a picnic dinner to make the evening more complete.  Trees and concert presented by Cincinnati Parks and Henderson Music, this is one event not be missed — and even better with the ones you love.

And you’ll want to share the evening’s finale with that special someone!  From 8:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m., the Festival finale features Dancing Under The Stars, where guests are invited to dust off their dancing shoes and join the tri-state as we dance under the stars!  The 18-piece Sound Body Jazz Orchestra and Dare To Dance studio lead the festivities presented by the Manuel D. and Rhoda Mayerson Foundation.
